The following table points to the tasks that you can use to configure the operation mode of the SMB server. This procedure describes how to use the smbadm join command to join an AD domain. To do so, create or update SMB shares and specify the share container for each share that you want to publish.

If the Samba service is running on the Oracle Solaris system, you must disable it.

See How to Disable the Samba Service. AD runs only on domain controllers. In addition to storing and making data available, AD protects network objects from unauthorized access and replicates objects across a network so that data is not lost if one domain controller fails. The system must be configured to use DNS for host lookup.

Ensure that the naming service and the DNS service are configured correctly for the appropriate AD domain. COM that has multiple AD domain controllers.

The primary AD domain controller is called dc. A secondary AD domain controller is called dc2. The fully qualified names are used for the domain and the domain controller. For descriptions of the sections and parameters used in this example file, see the krb5. This example shows the steps taken to configure the SMB server in domain mode. This command enables the SMB server and any service on which it depends, such as the idmap service. The SMB server cannot use the Oracle Solaris encrypted version of the local user's password for authentication.

I am having a nightmare getting a new Solaris server to join a domain in order to access some samba shares. I am a newbie to Unix so am learning as I go. Every time I try the net ads join -U administrator command, I get: net ads join -U administrator Enter administrator's password Hello, i install samba on AIX 5. Thanks 2 Replies.

Hi All, I've been trying to configure samba on Solaris 10 to allow me to have one share that is open and writable to all users and have the rest of my shares password protected by a generic account. If I set my security to user, my secured shares work just fine and prompt accordingly, but when Shell Programming and Scripting. Samba help. I have a question about adding users and maping theirs dirictorys. How can I add this users to have folders in the Main Folder? And I IP Networking. Could anyone give me some tips on what I should check to see what I'm doing wrong.

I've double check everything. Maybe I could of forgot something. It uses nmblookup 1 and smbclient 1 to obtain this information. This option is disabled by default because it is specific to Windows 95 and Windows 95 machines only. If set, nmblookup 1 will be called with -B option. This value is passed to nmblookup 1 as part of the -B option. Machines that are running Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95 or Windows 98 will not show any information about the operating system or server version.

The command with -r option must be run on a system without nmbd 8 running. To get proper responses from Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines, the command must be run as root and with -r option on a machine without nmbd running. The following documentation is provided for educational purposes only and should be used at your own risk.

By default Solaris 11 does not come with all the installed packages of its predecessors and instead it uses the new Image Packaging System IPS. You will need to install the packages from the Solaris catalog. To do this, you can use the pfexec command as a normal user pretty much like sudo or run the install as root.

If you do not set this the default maximum will be 16 and if a user is over this amount he or she will be denied access to all share points. Unfortunately nesting groups does not cut down on this number since the system will still see the user as a member of each nested group. I just always do this just in case. This is strange as this is normally all handled in Samba. The account should need no special privileges and is just a normal user account. Once the command prompt opens use the following command to generate a keytab file.

Copy the fs0. Test your file using kinit. No response is a good response, otherwise you will receive an error.

In order to optimize the config and take out any comments we will use the testparm command to generate a smb. This also has the added benefit of checking your config for any errors and displaying the errors on the screen. We are now ready to join this box to the domain. Here we are going to enable the use of winbind through PAM.

This will give us the capability of using active directory users and groups when assigning permissions on files and directories. We could also use this for other authentication methods that use PAM such as apache web sites but that is another discussion. Enable winbind in nsswitch. The system will now look at the local files followed by a check against winbind.

Before starting anything we should do a reconfiguration reboot to ensure the kernel entries that were entered in the beginning are being seen. So now lets enable services and run the commands again:.

If everything worked you should see all of your local users and groups plus all the users and groups from Active Directory. Since my first article much has changed with ZFS permissions and as of the latest releases it looks like I no longer need to specify explicit deny statements and so I have altered the config to reflect the new changes.

The following example illustrates how to setup root departmental shares along with user folders. The root departmental shares each have two groups associated with them:.

I use the naming strategy shown above to help keep my groups organized. Notice that corporate is the share name and department is going to be the departmental folder name. Before we get started we need to create our ZFS file system. You may have already noticed that I am creating the file system in export.

The following zpool shows a smaller system with only six disks. Your configuration will probably be different. I am then adding Domain Users to the ACL and allowing them to read the directory and list its contents.

I always setup the root directories so users cannot add or remove files.Today's Posts. Quick Links. Search Forums. Show Threads. Show Posts. Operating Systems Solaris samba wouldn't start on solaris Registered User.

A directory must exist before it can be shared. The zfs command has been enhanced to manage shares and share properties on Oracle Solaris ZFS file systems. The legacy sharemgr command is no longer available to manage SMB shares. Instead, use the enhanced zfsshareand unshare commands.

You can continue to use the legacy file-sharing method to manage shares on file servers that run previous versions of the Oracle Solaris OS. The Oracle Solaris OS can be configured to use mandatory locking on a per mount basis by using the non-blocking mandatory locking nbmand mount option.

When set, the nbmand mount option enforces mandatory cross-protocol share reservations and byte-range locking. When the nbmand mount option is not set, the SMB server will enforce mandatory share reservations and byte-range locking internally for all SMB clients. However, without nbmand set, there is only limited coordination with NFS and local processes. When using the ZFS file system, you can also set the nbmand option when the file system is created, so that the file system uses nbmand automatically:.

The following example combines the nbmand option with the mixed-case sensitivity option:. Note - The casesensitivity property is set to mixed by default on ZFS file systems. You can also use the share command to create shares on various file system types. See the share 1M man page. To create an autohome share, you must have defined autohome rules.

The sharesmb property must be set to on to enable SMB sharing on the dataset. Note - The zfs command automatically constructs the default share name in the following circumstances:. The share name is based on the name of the dataset mount point.By using our site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Cookie PolicyPrivacy Policyand our Terms of Service.
